West Coast Conference and StatBroadcast team up to Go Green, save 25000 sheets of paper

LAS VEGAS, NEV. -- The West Coast Conference and the Orleans Arena teamed up with StatBroadcast this past week to utilize the StatMonitr real-time stats system on press row at the 2014 WCC Basketball Tournament and saved an estimated more than 25,000 copies during the event by going digital.

StatBroadcast's StatMonitr system, which was available on court side monitors and on media members personal internet-enabled devices, allowed the conference to cut down on the number of copies of statistics made during timeouts and at the end of each game; instead media and support staff were able to view the information digitally, and in real-time, equating to measurable savings in reductions of paper, energy and ink.

The WCC tournament began on March 6 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and culminates with the men's and women's championship games on Tuesday, March 11; all told, the tournament featured 18 total games. The Orleans Arena is a 2014 LEED Gold certified facility and the WCC and StatBroadcast have followed the arena's lead to make a concerted effort at conservation during the event. StatBroadcast and the WCC have been partners for the men's and women's conference tournaments since 2011, but 2014 marks the first year that the effort has been made to transition from traditional paper statistics printouts to exclusively digital.

StatBroadcast also provides its StatMonitr system at the NCAA Men's Final Four, helping them accomplish similar conservation efforts at the NCAA's marquee event since 2010. Overall, more than 52 conference tournaments will utilize StatBroadcast's technology between March 5 and March 15; StatBroadcast's technology has the potential to save over 1,000,000 paper copies alone during conference tournament week if a similar effort were made across the board.
